Joist

Estimating, invoicing and payments app for residential contractors and home service pros, now part of EverPro.

01

Overview

Joist is a mobile and web app that lets contractors build and send branded estimates, turn them into invoices, collect online payments and, on higher plans, manage jobs and visit schedules.

Best for: Solo contractors and small residential trade and home service businesses that need to send professional estimates and invoices from the jobsite and get paid online.

What Joist does

Joist is built for contractors who quote work on site. Estimates are assembled from line items with markups, taxes, saved items and project templates, can include jobsite photos, contracts and terms, and are signed online by the homeowner from any device. Approved estimates convert into invoices in a few taps, with deposits, milestone and recurring invoices, change orders and work orders, while Joist Payments accepts credit cards, ACH, PayPal and Tap to Pay. Client profiles keep notes, documents and payment history, receipts can be photographed for expense tracking, and revenue, invoice and sales tax reports show how the business is doing.

The new Run plan organizes work into jobs that link estimates, invoices, clients, notes and scheduled visits, with conflict detection, email visit reminders to homeowners and calendar sync. Estimates and invoices sync automatically with QuickBooks Online on Pro and higher plans, Joist Reviews sends Google review requests after a client pays, and an AI Receptionist add-on answers missed calls and logs caller and job details. Homeowner financing, Joist Lending business loans and Joist Edge supplier rewards with The Home Depot and HD Supply round out the platform. Joist runs on iOS, Android and the web and requires an internet connection.

Joist was started by contractors who had run a service business in Eastern Canada and is based in Toronto. EverCommerce acquired it in 2019, and it now sits in the EverPro group of home and field service software; Joist reports more than 1.3 million contractors and over $85 billion in transactions. Pricing is published: Basics costs $10 per month for up to five documents, Pro $17, Elite $32 and Run $70 at an introductory discount, annual billing gives two months free, and every plan has a 14-day free trial. The free plan has been discontinued.
