HCSS HeavyBid

Heavy civil estimating and bid management software from HCSS, now available on the desktop and the web.

01

Overview

HeavyBid is HCSS's estimating and bidding software for heavy civil and infrastructure contractors, covering bid pipeline tracking, detailed resource-based estimates, quotes and owner bid submissions.

Best for: Heavy civil, highway, utility and infrastructure contractors that self-perform work and need detailed, resource-level estimates and DOT bid submissions.

What HCSS HeavyBid does

HeavyBid builds estimates from scopes of work made up of activities, crews, labor, equipment and materials, using codebooks, master estimates and historical production data to set unit prices and markups. Built-in checks flag missing items, duplicate costs and unusual values, what-if analysis tests pricing scenarios, and quote management collects subcontractor and vendor quotes in one place. Finished estimates can be exported to owner bidding systems such as AASHTOWare, Bid Express, iCX, PennDOT and UDOT, and HeavyBid Pre-Construction adds opportunity tracking, bid calendars and win/loss analysis.

HeavyBid Desktop is a Windows application with native interfaces to more than 30 back-office systems, including Viewpoint Vista, QuickBooks and Sage 300 CRE, plus RSMeans and Richardson cost data and Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project for scheduling. Project handoff turns a won bid into budgets for HeavyJob and accounting. In February 2026 HCSS launched a browser-based HeavyBid with multiple estimators working in the same estimate, audit trails, custom tags and shared libraries; the desktop product remains supported, and the December 2025 release added a web proposal engine and Quick Price Sheet sync.

HCSS (Heavy Construction Systems Specialists) was founded in 1986 and is based in Sugar Land, Texas, with more than 550 employees and over 4,000 customers. Thoma Bravo acquired it in 2021, and Nemetschek Group completed its acquisition in July 2026, placing HCSS in its Build & Construct segment. Pricing is quote-based by company size, users and modules, with Basic, Advanced and Comprehensive levels and an unlimited-user plan priced by revenue.
